ANBI Policy Plan


1. Introduction
In the policy plan below, the Nunnery “Buddha Dhita Burmese Theravadha Buddhist Nunnery” sets out the current ANBI policy plan. This policy plan has been established by the founders of the nunnery, which was registered with the Chamber of Commerce on 27 February 2025. The policy plan is amended annually, if necessary.

2. Establishment

The nunnery has legal personality under Dutch law in accordance with article 2:2 of the Dutch Civil Code. The Nunnery, which is has its registered office in Lelystad, is registered with the Chamber of Commerce as a religious community and bears the name “BUDDA DHITA BURMESE THERAVADHA BUDDHIST NUNNERY” The religious organization is organized as a religious community with the following structure:
1. Sangha Council (Board) , which is responsible for the property and administrative affairs of the nunnery, as far as spiritual matters are not concerned. The Sangha Council consists of a chairperson and a treasurer/secretary, and a Teacher with Transmission, who has the spiritual leadership and is responsible for the education and guidance of the practitioners. She has been employed by the Nunnery as a teacher, the only paid employee.
2. Dharma Counci l: Consists of the Teacher with Transmission and three Dharma leaders. This council advises on spiritual matters and the development of Dhamma education.
3. Members : Persons who formally commit themselves to the nunnery and support its objectives.
4. Volunteers, who are essential for the operational support of the activities of the Nunnery.

The Nunnery aims to honor the Buddha and to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for inner peace and spiritual growth, by promoting mindful living, compassion and the pursuit of wisdom through meditation practices and educational programs in the Burmese Theravada Buddhist tradition, as preserved in the Pali Canon as transmitted through and taught by Venerable Ledi Sayadaw, Mahasi Sayadaw, Pa Auk Sayadaw and the recognized teachers of their schools. In addition, we highly value the teachings of Sayadaw Dr. Nandamalabhivamsa and Oxford Sayadaw as our main resources for the further transmission of the Dhamma in our
activities, by:
1. Promoting mindful living and compassion.
2. Pursuing wisdom through meditation practices (Samatha and Vipassana) and educational programs in the Burmese Theravada Buddhist tradition.
3. Spreading and preserving the teachings of the Buddha.
4. Promoting a sense of nonviolence and compassion in the world.
More specifically, the nunnery aims to achieve these objectives by engaging in the following activities:

  • Maintaining a Buddhist nunnery as a residence and spiritual center.
  • Organizing physical and digital meditation retreats and celebrations (community services).
  • Offering education and advice on Buddhist philosophy and practice.
  • Providing individual spiritual guidance and meditation instruction.
  • Facilitating silent meditation and chanting for members and interested parties.
  • Providing demand-driven education (also online) on Samatha and Vipassana meditation.
  • Organizing cultural events during Buddhist holidays.
  • Offering a nunnery day program for visitors.
  • Practicing Pindapata (asking for food on market day) as a traditional practice and form of community interaction.
  • Providing housing and education to orphans in Myanmar as a future project, depending on funding).

5. Undertaking other legitimate activities that support the objectives of the organization. Most activities will take place at the nunnery location at Orandpark 42 in Lelystad. Depending on the size of the group and the nature of the activity, some activities also take place at other locations. This is clearly stated on the website and other communication channels of the nunnery.
3. Asset management
The Sangha Council manages the Nunnery in the area of ​​​​​​​​assets and legal matters. Every year, a joint meeting of the Sangha Council and the Dharma Council establishes a policy plan in which the management and spending of the assets of the Nunnery is determined. Based on this, the treasurer manages the finances and at least one other member of the Sangha Council has full access to the administration, bank accounts and cash. The Sangha Council is responsible for publishing data from the annual accounts on the website of the Nunnery. The nunnery is not a profit-making organization. The Nunnery does not hold more assets than are necessary to achieve its objectives. The remainder is used for charities in the Netherlands or abroad.

4. Policy
The policy of the Nunnery is laid down in the “POLICY PLAN BUDDHA DHITA BURMESE THERAVADHA BUDDHIST NUNNERY”
The remuneration policy of the Nunnery is in accordance with the rules regarding minimum wage and in accordance with the rules of the IND for employees with an employment contract. Members of the Sangha Council (Board), teachers and volunteers only receive expense allowances.
5. Publication obligation

The Nunnery complies with its publication obligation.
